Leadership for a Networked World: The Next Frontier of Shared Services

CURRICULUM

The curriculum will be based on experience that has been documented through the work of the Leadership for a Networked World Program and leading practitioners from government and industry. The program is directed by Professor Jerry Mechling. Some of the tools used to teach the curriculum include:

  • Web tools developed specifically for the LNW Program at Harvard: Attendees complete an online diagnostic assessment prior to the start of the course. The completed assessments create a baseline measurement for the interests and experience level of the group, and affect some of the program’s sessions. Based on his or her responses, each participant receives a customized reading list of relevant academic and practical materials.
  • Case Studies: The curriculum also relies in part on the case method pioneered at Harvard. The case method begins with case studies drawn from actual experience, and works through a rigorous examination of those cases in intense class discussions. Through the shared analysis of these cases, participants learn techniques they can use to better understand and apply effectively to the concrete situations they face in their work.
  • Student participation: Interactive sessions are designed to allow participants to present the project(s) they are currently working on, and to develop solutions with feedback from the class and professors.
