* Please note that applicants to the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program may be contacted after submitting their application and asked to provide a current professional reference.

ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS
Admission is selective, based on professional achievement and a proven commitment to public service. There is no formal educational requirement. Proficiency in written and spoken English is essential.
Early application is encouraged as qualified candidates are admitted on a rolling, space-available basis and programs often fill to capacity. Because of the interactive nature of this program, the number of participants is limited. Applications received after the deadline will be considered only if space remains in the class.
FELLOWSHIPS
An applicant’s sponsoring agency or the applicant will be expected to pay the cost of the program. Applicants from agencies or employers that are unable to provide full sponsorship are reminded that financial support for this program may be available from local foundations and philanthropic organizations.
In addition, the following organizations offer tuition support for this program:
- **NEW** For Local Elected Latino Officials from California
The League of California-Cities Latino Caucus Fellowship will provide $10,000 to one local elected Latino official from California each year. Applications for this fellowship are due by April 11, 2008. To be considered for this fellowship, please apply on-line . In response to the “Who will be the financial sponsor of your participation?” question, type “California Latino Caucus”.
- For chief motor vehicle or law enforcement officials:
Historically, the Association of American Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA) has grated a fellowship to two applicants each year. Chief motor vehicle and law enforcement officials from the United States and Canada, AAMVA or IRP, Inc. Board of Directors members and AAMVA International Standing Committee Chairs and Vice Chairs are eligible to apply. Applications for this fellowship are due by February 7, 2008. Applications must be submitted directly to the Association of American Motor Vehicle Administrators (AAMVA). Click on the link above for instructions on how to apply for this fellowship.
- For city/county managers in Arizona:
The Arizona City/County Management Association gives full fellowships to two applicants from Arizona each year. Applicants should apply directly to ACMA.
- For state, county, and local officials in Maine:
The Brooks Foundation partially sponsors one public official from Maine each year. To be considered for this fellowship, please apply online. In response to the “Who will be the financial sponsor of your participation?” question, type “Brooks”.
- For state, county, and local officials in Colorado:
The Gates Family Foundation provides up to five partial fellowships for state, county and local officials from Colorado. Applications for this fellowship are due by March 3, 2008. To be considered for this fellowship, please apply online. In response to the “Who will be the financial sponsor of your participation?” question, type “Gates”.
- For state and local officials in New Hampshire:
The Caroline Gross Fellowship of the New Hampshire Charitable Foundation is given to one applicant each year and covers tuition and other expenses up to $10,000. Only New Hampshire state and local officials who demonstrate the highest standards of performance in public service are considered for this Fellowship. Candidates must be nominated for the award.
- For senior fire executives:
The Harvard Fire Executive Fellowship is open to senior fire executives who have demonstrated significant career accomplishments and have the potential to impact and initiate change. Applications for this fellowship are due by February 11, 2008. Applications must be submitted directly to the International Association of Fire Chiefs. - For state, local and nonprofit officials in Rhode Island:
The Hassenfeld Family Foundation Fellowships are open to state, local and nonprofit officials from Rhode Island. Applications for this fellowship are due by March 1, 2008. To be considered for this fellowship, please apply online. In response to the “Who will be the financial sponsor of your participation?” question, type “Hassenfeld”. - For Local elected officials and appointed staff from SEMCOG's member communities:
SEMCOG's Taubman Fellowships, sponsored by the Taubman Company, cover the costs of tuition, room, and board for county, city, village, and township officials working in Southeast Michigan communities which belong to SEMCOG. Southeast Michigan is the home to Taubman Company headquarters. Applications for this fellowship are due March 3, 2008. Applications must be submitted directly to SEMCOG. - For openly LGBT state, county and local officials:
The Gay and Lesbian Leadership Institute provides partial and full scholarships to meet the costs of the program to LGBT individuals who have been accepted by Harvard and require some financial assistance. Applications for this fellowship are due March 28, 2008. To be considered for this fellowship, please apply online. In response to the “Who will be the financial sponsor of your participation?” question, type “Leadership”.
The Fannie Mae Corporation will not offer the Fannie Mae Fellowship for the Senior Executives in State and Local Government program in 2008. Please contact the Fannie Mae Manager of the Leadership Programs, Brian Cusick at 202-752-2334, with any questions.
