Jonathan Morduch

Jonathan Morduch is an associate professor in the Wagner Graduate School of Public Service (where he heads the specialization in Public Policy) and in the Economics Department of New York University. He has written extensively on poverty and financial institutions in developing countries and on tensions between achieving social impacts and meeting financial goals in microfinance. He has recently written a survey of challenges for microcredit in the United States, supported by the Fannie Mae Foundation. He is currently writing a book on the economics of microfinance with Beatriz Armendariz, to be published by the MIT Press. Professor Morduch has been a consultant for the World Bank and the United States Agency for International Development and has worked with a variety of non-profits and non-governmental organizations. He is currently an advisor to the board of Pro Mujer, an innovative provider of microcredit for poor women in Latin America. Professor Morduch has taught at Harvard University, was a National Fellow at the Hoover Institution at Stanford University, and was a MacArthur Foundation Research Fellow at Princeton University. Professor Morduch received his Ph. D. in Economics from Harvard University in 1991. During the academic year 2002-3, Morduch will be an Abe Fellow and Visiting Professor of Economics at the University of Tokyo.
