Don Johnston, Jr.

Don Johnston, Jr., is the Financial Sector Program�s resident team leader for Bank Rakyat Indonesia. Based in Indonesia, Johnston works directly with the management and staff of BRI. For more than 12 years, he has provided technical assistance to what has become the most successful and widely emulated microfinance institution. Johnston provides general policy support for micro and retail banking; field operations; survey and statistical work; and computerization and management information systems. Johnston has also carried out microfinance advisory work in East Timor and India. A native of Little Rock, Arkansas, Johnston graduated with honors from Baylor University in Waco, Texas with a bachelor�s degree in economics and mathematics and expects to receive his PhD in economics from Harvard in 2003. A National Merit Scholar, he was awarded a National Science Foundation Graduate Fellowship in 1985. He and his wife, who is a native of Indonesia, have two daughters.
