OVERVIEW
To ensure that public officials are prepared to meet the challenge of mass casualty terrorist attacks, Harvard University's John F. Kennedy School of Government and the Harvard School of Public Health have teamed with key federal agencies to establish the National Preparedness Leadership Initiative (NPLI).
At the heart of the Initiative is the NPLI Executive Education Program, a dynamic leadership program custom designed by Harvard University for senior officials in federal, state and local government responsible for preparedness, response or recovery from terrorist events and natural disasters.
As long as the threat of mass casualty terrorism exists, federal, state and local officials must be prepared to respond to situations beyond the scope of their immediate experience, cope with high levels of uncertainty and stress, reach coherent decisions under pressure, and coordinate, define and guide the actions of a wide range of people and organizations.
NPLI Executive Education Program will consist of three parts:
- A week-long residential session in Cambridge, including a combination of case studies, faculty presentations, and interactive exercises.
- Monthly virtual conferences that will take the form of short seminars, presentations or discussions.
- A Two and one half day concluding seminar, also in Cambridge, scheduled for June 2010.
Note: Participants must attend both residential sessions.
